December Working Visit to the San Francisco Bay Area
Friday, December 5, through Tuesday, December 9
Please contact me soon if you live in or near San Francisco's East Bay and would like to sign up for a private, in-person session during my visit. I'm scheduling sessions now with current and new clients.
I usually return to the Bay Area three times a year to see clients face to face (always a treat for me). This year, due to a family medical emergency, I was only able to schedule two such visits. (The family member, my husband, is fine now.)
In 2009, I intend to return to my usual three-times-a-year schedule of Bay Area visits. Check this page after Thanksgiving for the dates of my next scheduled visit, probably in February.
Here's when and where I will be seeing clients this December:
Fri., Dec. 5--Monica Simms' Berkeley office (Shattuck near Ashby)
Sat., Dec. 6--Monica Simms' Berkeley office (Shattuck near Ashby)
Sun., Dec. 7--Monica Simms' Berkeley office (Shattuck near Ashby)
Mon., Dec. 8--[not scheduling appointments]
Tues., Dec. 9--Sandra Lewis' Berkeley office (Webster near Telegraph)
If you want a session with me but are unable to schedule one between Dec. 5 and 9, please consider making an appointment for a telephone session. I've been conducting these for over 20 years. Clients--including those who have never met me face to face--have told me, time and again, that these phone sessions are highly effective.
(For more information on telephone sessions, please return to the home page and check the right column.)
FREE initial 20-minute telephone consultation
If you're considering working with me and want to talk with me about whether my work would be a good fit, please call or email me. I'd be happy to schedule your initial free, 20-minute telephone consultation.
Tell your friends about these FREE telephone consultations
If you've already worked with me and your friends ask about the experience and whether it might benefit them, please send them to this web site or give them my phone number or email address. Tell them that I'd be happy to talk with them for free for 20 minutes and answer any questions they might have.
WORKSHOPS ALSO AVAILABLE ON REQUEST

• Creating Community
Whether you are interested in partnership,
childbirth or community, I can tailor a workshop to the needs

One Real Partner Is Worth Ten Dream Lovers:
How to Make Wise Relationship Decisions
This workshop clarifies misperceptions about romance, love and
commitment that can distort your capacity to make wise relationship
decisions and introduces you to a method for making these decisions
that allows you to feel whole, joyous and powerful no matter
what the outcome.
Using the tools of intention, journaling and
guided imagery, you identify:
- what you want most in a committed
relationship
- what you have to give and the kind of partner
you want to be
- your core motivation for entering or deepening
a partnership
- what you can and cannot live with to stay true
to yourself
- what's in the way of bringing your longed-for
partnership into being
- the next steps you're ready to take to
shape the relationship life you desire
I offer two versions: one for singles, another
for those who are partnered. (I can also tailor the workshop
to women-only and men-only groups.)
The workshop for singles focuses on how you can best attract—and
recognize—the kind of partner you want (as well as get clear
about whether you really want one).
The workshop for those who are partnered* helps you discover
how you can reshape your current committed partnership so that
it better matches who you are and what you desire—individually
and as a couple. You also clarify to what extent you are ready
and able to make these changes and the consequences of not making
them.
*Some people prefer to attend this workshop as a couple, others
without their partner. You can request either a couples workshop
or one for people who are partnered attending without their partner.
What people are saying about Carolyn's relationship work:
This has been the best personal growth work
I've ever experienced—and I've tried a lot of approaches and
seminars. My relationship with my wife immediately took a significant
turn for the better.
– CURT WEAR, general contractor
Carolyn led a great workshop! I loved the powerful guided imagery
and the nurturing group process. The greatest benefit? Discovering
more about my role in relationship and what I can do to become
the partner I want to be. Main complaint? The workshop was too
short.
– DAWN VALADEZ, filmmaker and nonprofit consultant

Hypnosis
for Childbirth–for Moms and Birth
Companions: Ease and Enhance the Birthing Process
Through a combination of intention setting, guided imagery and
self-hypnosis training, this workshop helps you increase your
confidence as a birthing mom or a birth companion, enhance your
capacity to relax under stress, and bring your full power to
the childbirth experience. If you're the birthing mom, you learn
how to reduce pain by releasing fear and resistance and activating
your body's natural anesthesia. This improves your chances of
moving the birthing process forward naturally and can help reduce
your need for medication. If you're the birthing companion—mate,
friend, doula, labor coach—you learn how to relax and be fully
present so that you can better help the birthing mom stay focused,
calm and confident. Both of you develop a tool kit of highly
effective practices and receive an array of useful tips plus
a set of audio recordings to help you reinforce what you have
learned.
What people are saying about Carolyn's self-hypnosis training
for childbirth:
Carolyn's self-hypnosis training helped us connect at a deeper
level and become powerful partners during the birthing process
and beyond. And Esther didn't need pain medication!
– MICHAEL STEIN AND ESTHER NEUWIRTH, clients
The hypnosis training I received from Carolyn gave me the courage
to have the kind of birth I wanted and the tools to go through
a 33-hour labor relaxed and without fear.
– SERENA, client
I heartily recommend Carolyn's services to women facing childbirth
or hospitalization for any reason. I consider self-hypnosis training
and hypnotherapy excellent adjuncts to prenatal care.
– DR. LAURA STACHEL, obstetrician/gynecologist
I've been sending clients to Carolyn for years. She gets results.
Her hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis training helps pregnant women
reduce nausea and discomfort and gain the confidence to give
birth naturally, even after a previous caesarian.
– EDIE SILBER, nurse practitioner
Creating Community Anywhere:
Generate Greater Support and Connection NOW,
Wherever You Live and Work
Based on my book, Creating Community Anywhere (coauthored
with Kristin Anundsen), this workshop introduces you to the benefits—including
the health benefits—of community, the major pitfalls and how
to avoid them, and the many forms—residential and non-residential,
high-commitment and low-commitment—that community can take.
Using the tools of intention, journaling and guided imagery,
you clarify what you want most and what you have to give, take
stock of the community-building assets you already possess (probably
more than you realize), and develop a set of simple, concrete
steps to generate the support and connection you desire.
Dr. M. Scott Peck, author of the best selling
The Road Less Traveled, wrote in his Foreword to Creating
Community Anywhere:
Carolyn and Kristin wisely present
community, for the time being, as a choice. Over and over
again, they say, "If this is
the way you would like to live, here are some of the ways you
might go about it." And in doing so, they have written
the most comprehensive book I know about the community movement
in all its variety.
Build greater community among those you already know:
If you and your friends, neighbors, staff or associates have
been exploring how to develop more effective personal or professional
community, I would be happy to tailor a workshop to your needs
and desires.
The process Carolyn uses creates an environment safe enough
to allow people to acknowledge differences and unconscious dynamics.
By skillfully encouraging communication about these, she helps
groups grow closer.
– REV. DAN O'NEAL, Unitarian minister
Carolyn knows how to help groups of strong-willed individuals
collaborate and get results.
– MICHAEL HORST, senior vice president,
Urban Land Institute
